Mizike Performance - Sunday 27th November 2016, 2.30pm
The Weston Library, Broad Street, Oxford OX1 3BG
Don't miss Mizike singing in Blackwell Hall in the Bodleian Library's stunning new Weston Library in Oxford. In an afternoon of celebration of the City's Christmas Light Festival and the finale to the Shakespeare Oxford 2016 festival, Mizike will be performing in a line up with Crossover Dance Projects. Led by Cecilia MacFarlane and Euton Daley, this moving intergenerational dance group present 'Shakespeare Dead or Alive' taking you on a journey through some of Shakespeare's tempestuous tales through movement and the spoken word.
Mizike will follow with singing which will take you on another fascinating voyage through deserts and forests, villages and cities, celebrating the songs from across Africa. The singers have a passion for the beguiling, rich and complex sounds of polyphonic and polyrhythmic singing, often passed down from tribal communities across Africa, as well as powerful praise songs and anthems from South Africa, mostly arranged or composed and taught by the talented Anita Daulne who led the choir for its first 4 years. At ALSO Festival they will bring new sounds and surprises as well as some old favourites.
Following this performance, Mizike will take their joyful singing to Donnington Doorstep to kick Christmas celebrations off at 4pm on Sunday 27th November.
